Excellent reflection, Becky! Encouraging young people to read is a worthy endeavor, and the processes you researched and may pursue are fantastic ways to engage students and draw attention to library resources. As others have pointed out, these strategies could also be adapted for different audiences. Your school is fortunate to have you as their librarian. I know that as an ELA teacher, I would love to post those QR codes for book trailers in my classroom!

Thanks so much for your intriguing and thought provoking article. I was struck with how helpful your process is not only to other school librarians, but even academic libraries. I could see a program at my university library that would incorporate some of your ideas. I really like that you brought up the idea of speaking with “closet” readers. So much insight to be gained, I am sure! On the geeky side of things I love how this Google patent might integrate augmented reality with a book. For example, students could browse the library stacks with their mobile device scan a code and a hologram like image would appear showcasing the what the book is about. Great post Becky. I appreciated being given access to your thought process as you refined your focus from the role of a classroom teacher to a librarian. Your role as a librarian is just as important to your school. Encouraging reading for pleasure and reaching “reluctant readers” is a passion of mine as well. As such, I found your background information on the success of publishing company’s book trailers fascinating. Great job, Becky! I like the way you took us through your thought process of why you changed your question. Your new question addresses the needs of your work situation. I liked how you explained the focus was on using book trailers to increase circulation rates and to motivate reluctant readers. You provided several creative ways to address your question. I’m especially intrigued with the idea of posting QR codes inside books that correspond with a student-created book trailers. Thanks for providing the book trailers at the end of your blog. It provided a great example of what this could look like in any library.
